Behind The Flowers
Hi, I am Amie, and I’m the girl behind the flowers!
The Flower Shed is a small-scale urban flower farm in Boise, Idaho. In fact, we would even call ourselves a micro-farm! Our flowers are grown in the front and backyard of our home, in an unsuspecting run-of-the-mill neighborhood. People often ask me, "Where is your farm?" and I reply, "My front and backyard!"
In 2023, I started The Flower Shed with the idea of designing florals for weddings and events from my home. I had done that for the last three years and had a blast, but since then, the vision for The Flower Shed shifted and evolved.
I noticed that most of the flowers I picked up from my wholesaler were imported from countries far away and were wrapped in loads of plastic. For being such a beautiful and earthy industry, the floral design business sure can be dirty. I also noticed that the best product I could get my hands on was the flowers that were grown here in the valley throughout the growing season. Add to this my conviction to be thrifty and do a lot with a little, I wanted to utilize the small lot of land we live on and make it productive. All of these experiences merged to create a new vision for The Flower Shed.
As I mentioned, our lot size isn't anything spectacular. We have about 1/3 of an acre. When we first moved in, the front yard was xeriscaped and covered with desert plants. While some may favor succulents, this botanical-loving gal was eager to get rid of them as soon as possible.
Last year, we cleared out our front yard and replaced the xeriscape with long flower beds so I could try my hand at flower farming for the first time. Surprisingly, it went well! Amazing in fact! So much so that we have decided to expand our backyard flower beds this year. In all, we are growing on about 2,000 square feet of soil and have more blooms than we ever imagined possible.
Having a history with wedding work, I know what blooms wedding florists are in search of and have designated my space to growing these favorites: feverfew, snapdragons, campanula, queen anne's lace, amaranthus, dahlias, zinnias, fama scabiosa, yarrow, and more.
We are here to supply local florists with gorgeous blooms throughout the growing season take their designs to the next level. We also offer bulk bloom purchasing options for those looking to DIY an event. Additionally, we accept small-scale custom orders when our flowers are in bloom.
